Artificial Intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines. It is the use of computer programming techniques to imitate human actions by processing data from the surrounding, to anticipate and solve problems through an autonomous approach in carrying out a variety of tasks.
The Breakfast Chat is a program powered by START2DEV – an initiative by OneNet, and the February edition was held on the 22nd of February, 2020, titled The Breakfast Chat with Emmanuel Idowu and the theme was ‘Artificial Intelligence: The Basics & Future’.
The goal of this edition was to gain introductory knowledge of Artificial Intelligence. The following questions were addressed
- How far has Nigeria gone with the use of AI?
- What point should AI be introduced into businesses?
- What is the success rate of AI globally?
- The current language used in AI?
- Factors affecting the use and penetration rate of AI in Nigeria?
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN NIGERIA
Nigeria is scraping the fundamentals right now, we are still in the learning stage of acceptance and adapting this technology. For AI to work perfectly in Nigeria we need Machine, Data, Power, Record-keeping, Security of information, etc. The country is yet to harness its potentials, but with time it will get there. It was also noted that the government has a part to play in the advancement of the technology industry which will have an overall impact on the development and success of the country.
What point should AI be introduced into businesses?
AI needs supervision in every business especially start-ups therefore business owners are advised to slowly introduce it into their business processes and not depend on it completely in their day-to-day activities. Customer service was identified as the most practical department to introduce AI for businesses.
What is the success rate of AI globally?
AI has a role to play in every industry. It is expected that AI will be able to successfully carry out or simulate human activities so it will be difficult to quantify the success of AI until it is narrowed down to a particular field.
The current language used in AI?
Subsets of AI include machine learning, computer recognition, robotics, language processing, pattern regulation, knowledge management, and deep learning. Machines can be classified into Strong AI & Basic AI depending on the complexities of tasks they can carry out without human supervision.
If you missed the event, or you need a refresher, or you are just getting to know about it, you can watch the video below and learn from Emmanuel Idowu as he discusses the basics of AI.
